MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A 12-year-old girl wounded in the deadly shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis remains in critical condition, according to her family.

The victim, identified as Sophia Forchas, sustained life-threatening injuries during the attack and continues to fight for her life. U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, who represents Minnesota, confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Sophia’s family is asking for continued prayers for her recovery.
“Sophia’s family is asking for us to pray for her and Lydia’s speedy recovery. Please pray for them and all the victims of Annunciation Church,” Omar wrote.
According to updates shared by family members, doctors were forced to remove one side of Sophia’s skull due to severe swelling. If her condition does not improve, surgeons may need to remove the other side.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to support the Forchas family during this medical crisis. The fundraiser revealed a heartbreaking detail: Sophia’s mother, a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse, had rushed to the hospital to assist in the aftermath of the tragedy, only to discover that her own daughter was among the victims.
The shooting, which targeted students from Sophia’s school, left multiple people injured and sparked renewed calls for community support and healing. Vigils have been held across Minneapolis as families and neighbors rally around the victims.
Sophia’s loved ones say they remain hopeful but know her recovery will be long and difficult. For now, they are asking for prayers, donations, and continued compassion from the community as they endure this devastating ordeal.
