Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Dover that claimed the life of a 14-year-old Caesar Rodney High School student on Friday afternoon.

The collision happened shortly before 4 p.m. on September 12 along West Lebanon Road, near Royal Grant Way. According to investigators, a Caesar Rodney School District bus was traveling east and preparing to make a right-hand turn when it was struck by an electric bike carrying two teenagers.
Police said the e-bike, operated by a 16-year-old from Camden with a 14-year-old Dover resident riding as a passenger, was traveling eastbound on a paved sidewalk. Investigators believe the e-bike failed to stop at a posted bicycle stop sign before entering the intersection, colliding with the passenger side of the bus.
The 14-year-old passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released. The 16-year-old operator was also hospitalized and remains in serious condition. Police said neither teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that 21 elementary school students and the 75-year-old driver were on board the bus. No injuries were reported among them.
Officials with the Caesar Rodney School District later confirmed both teens were enrolled at Caesar Rodney High School.
The crash remains under active investigation. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to contact Delaware State Police Troop 3 at 302-698-8451.
