23-year-old Puerto Rican Javier Lee Martinez Hernandez killed in early Sunday shooting in the 200 block of Eastway Dr., Charlotte, N.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sunday, April 13, 2025) – A homicide investigation is underway in Charlotte following an early morning shooting that left one man dead in the city’s North Tryon Division.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Eastway Drive shortly after 6 a.m. in response to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they located a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Javier Lee Martinez Hernandez. Police confirmed that his next of kin have been notified.

CMPD’s Homicide Unit detectives were quickly deployed to the scene to begin their investigation, working alongside Crime Scene Search teams to collect and process physical evidence. Additional support was provided by CMPD Operations Command, the Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, and Victim Services.

Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no information regarding possible suspects or motives has been released at this time.
