36-year-old Mississippi man, Jarvis Anderson shot and killed man, then killed Tiffany Johnson (Tiffany Jones) who refused to let him hide

JACKSON, Miss. — A shocking act of violence has left two families grieving and a community reeling after a Sunday afternoon shooting claimed the lives of two people — one, an innocent bystander who simply refused to help a man evade justice.

Jackson Police have arrested 36-year-old Jarvis Anderson, who now faces double homicide charges after allegedly killing a man during an argument, then fatally shooting a woman who wouldn’t let him hide in her home.

The first shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. in a quiet Jackson neighborhood. According to police, Anderson and another man got into a heated dispute that quickly escalated. Gunfire rang out, and the man was killed at the scene.

In a desperate attempt to avoid arrest, Anderson fled on foot, running to a nearby home on the same street. There, he encountered 37-year-old Tiffany Johnson, also known to friends and family as Tiffany Jones.

Investigators say Anderson begged to be let in. But Johnson — standing her ground — refused to shelter a killer. Tragically, her refusal cost her life.

Enraged, Anderson allegedly turned his weapon on Johnson and shot her, killing her just steps from her doorway.

Emergency crews responded swiftly, but Johnson could not be saved. Police tracked Anderson down shortly after and took him into custody without incident. He is now being held and faces charges for two counts of murder, with more charges possibly forthcoming as the investigation develops.

Family members described Tiffany Johnson as a strong, principled woman — a mother, sister, and friend who did the right thing, even in the face of danger.

“She stood up for what was right,” one relative said. “She didn’t deserve to die like that. None of them did.”

Community members have begun to leave flowers and candles near Johnson’s home in her memory, mourning the loss of a woman who showed courage in the most terrifying moment of her life.

Jackson Police Chief James Davis called the incident a “senseless act of violence” and emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

“We’re looking into all aspects of what led up to this tragedy,” Davis said. “Our hearts go out to both victims’ families. This kind of violence is unacceptable.”

As neighbors come together to grieve and comfort one another, they remember Tiffany Johnson not just as a victim — but as a hero, who chose justice over fear, even at the ultimate cost.
