AMITE, LA – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in the early morning hours of March 19, 2025, on LA Hwy 16 near Leonard Chapel Road in St. Helena Parish. The accident claimed the life of 43-year-old Chad A. Ribando of Tickfaw.
According to preliminary findings, a 2017 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on LA Hwy 16 when it struck Ribando, who was walking in the same lane. Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
Ribando was reportedly wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the crash. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Charger, who was properly restrained, was uninjured.
As part of standard procedure, routine toxicology samples were collected from both Ribando and the driver for further analysis as the investigation continues.
Authorities Emphasize Pedestrian Safety
State police are urging both pedestrians and motorists to take extra precautions while on the road, particularly in low-visibility conditions. Officials highlight that pedestrian crashes are often preventable through basic safety measures, including:
