Southwest Philadelphia, PA — A high-speed crash in Southwest Philadelphia Tuesday evening claimed the life of 45-year-old Blaine Lewis, who was identified by authorities as the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The fatal incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. along the 2400 block of South 54th Street near Lindbergh Boulevard. According to Philadelphia police, Lewis was driving a silver Nissan southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.
Investigators say the car struck a guardrail, went airborne, and plummeted down a steep embankment, ultimately landing on the train tracks below.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and found Lewis unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and there were no passengers in the car at the time of the crash.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident, including whether other factors such as road conditions or mechanical issues may have played a role.
Train service in the area was temporarily halted while crews worked to clear the scene and assess damage to the tracks. Transportation officials have since confirmed that operations have resumed.
Blaine Lewis’s death marks another tragic reminder of the dangers of high-speed driving, particularly along this stretch of roadway, which residents say has seen its share of serious accidents in recent years.
No further details have been released at this time.
