49-year-old Latham man Felipa Martinez-Garcia named as pedestrian fatally hit by vehicle on Route 9 in Coloine, New York

COLONIE, N.Y. — A fatal pedestrian crash early Monday morning shut down a portion of Route 9 in Colonie as police launched a full investigation into the incident.

According to Colonie Police Department Lieutenant Thomas Breslin, the crash occurred around 5 a.m. on Loudon Road, just north of Troy-Schenectady Road. An officer on patrol in the area reported hearing what sounded like a collision and quickly responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officer discovered a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. The officer and a passerby immediately began performing CPR, but despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian has been identified as 49-year-old Felipa Martinez-Garcia of Latham.

Following the incident, police issued a road closure as investigators worked the scene. According to 511NY, the closure was reported at 5:12 a.m. and affected the area between Latham Circle, Troy-Schenectady Road, Erin Street, and NY State Route 2. All lanes have since reopened.

Lt. Breslin confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. No charges have been filed at this time, and a full investigation is ongoing.
