6-year-old girl identified as child who died after medical episode at Excelled Montessori School – REPORT

BOERNE, TX – A 6-year-old girl tragically died Friday morning after experiencing a medical emergency at ExcellED Montessori Plus, a private school in Boerne, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the incident occurred around 10 a.m., when school staff found the child unresponsive in the bathroom. Emergency services were called immediately, and trained staff began performing CPR and life-saving measures while awaiting first responders. The girl was transported to University Hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

The Sheriff’s Office says early indications suggest the medical episode was not the result of any wrongdoing or negligence on the part of the school or its staff. Investigators believe the child may have suffered from a chronic or pre-existing medical condition that contributed to the sudden health crisis.

“From what we’re gathering right now, we don’t have any indication at this point that there’s any wrongdoing on the part of the school,” said Sheriff Javier Salazar. “Our understanding is that this little girl had some underlying health conditions, possibly of a chronic nature, that may have contributed.”

Sheriff Salazar also noted that school staff acted appropriately and swiftly. “What’s been estimated to us is that she was in the bathroom for about two to five minutes,” he said. “All indications are that the staff reacted the way they were supposed to.”

The tragedy has left the school community reeling. In a statement released Friday, ExcellED Montessori Plus expressed its sorrow and extended condolences to the family.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of a child who was attending our summer program this week,” the statement read. “The child experienced a medical emergency in the classroom, and our trained staff responded immediately, administering CPR and emergency care until first responders arrived. Despite all efforts, the child sadly did not survive.”

The school acknowledged that the child had a known medical condition and confirmed it is cooperating fully with the investigation.

“Our entire ExcellED Montessori Plus community is grieving this loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement continued. “We have made grief counseling available for our staff and students, and we are keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Officials confirmed that all other students at the school are safe and accounted for.

The heartbreaking incident comes months after another tragedy affected the local education community—when a teacher and a small child were fatally struck by a driver who suffered a medical episode in December 2024.

The investigation into Friday’s incident remains ongoing, but authorities continue to emphasize there is no evidence of foul play.
