OLIVEHURST, CA – Authorities have identified the suspect who was killed in a deadly shootout that also took the life of a Marysville police officer during the execution of a search warrant.

According to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, the gunman has been identified as 60-year-old Rick David Oliver of Olivehurst.

Fatal Exchange of Gunfire During SWAT Operation

The tragic incident unfolded Wednesday morning when a SWAT team was executing a search warrant on Kestrel Court as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking and firearm-related crimes.

During the operation, gunfire erupted, resulting in the death of Marysville Police Officer Osmar Rodarte, 25. Officers returned fire, killing Oliver at the scene, authorities confirmed.

Ongoing Investigation into Deadly Shootout

Due to the complexity of the case, the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office stated that it could take months before additional details about the shootout are released. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the confrontation.

Community Mourns Fallen Officer Osmar Rodarte

Rodarte’s tragic death has sent shockwaves through the Marysville community, prompting an outpouring of grief and support for the Marysville Police Department and his family.

On Thursday, a law enforcement procession escorted Rodarte’s body to Placer County for an autopsy, with community members lining the streets to honor the fallen officer.

Gunman’s Criminal History Revealed

Court records indicate that Oliver had an extensive criminal history, including a recent guilty plea for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, which resulted in the victim becoming pregnant.

Although the crime was not classified as forcible, Yuba County District Attorney Pat McGrath stated that Oliver was facing a recommended sentence of four years and four months in state prison.

However, Oliver failed to appear in court for his scheduled sentencing on August 15, prompting a warrant for his arrest.

Law Enforcement Efforts to Locate Oliver Prior to Shootout

Authorities, with assistance from the FBI and a bail bond agency, tracked down and arrested Oliver in Douglas County, Nevada, on February 17. He was later arraigned in Yuba County Superior Court, and additional legal proceedings were scheduled.

Due to his failure to appear in court, Oliver was facing an enhanced sentence of up to eight years in prison.

Oliver’s Criminal Background Includes Drug and DUI Convictions

Beyond his most recent charges, Oliver had prior convictions for drug possession and driving under the influence.

Because of the severity of his conviction, Oliver was required to serve time in state prison under California’s prison realignment laws rather than a county facility.

Investigation Remains Active

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the events leading up to the deadly confrontation. Additional details will be released as authorities work to piece together the tragic chain of events that led to the fatal shootout.
