A devastating early morning crash on Sunday resulted in the death of one woman and left another injured, as Virginia State Police continue to investigate the two-vehicle collision that temporarily shut down Interstate 64 westbound in Henrico County.

At approximately 4:54 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, Virginia State Police responded to a call regarding a crash near the 196-mile marker on I-64 West, just past the Airport Drive exit. The incident involved a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C250 and a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, both traveling westbound.

According to police, the Mercedes-Benz was being driven by 27-year-old Tameecha F. Chambliss of Richmond. Preliminary reports indicate that Chambliss’s vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when it was sideswiped by the Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 46-year-old Miguel Andres Munive Rangel of Doswell. The impact caused the Mercedes to lose control, overturn, and ultimately come to rest on its roof in the middle lane of the interstate.

Tragically, Chambliss was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Her death marks another painful reminder of the importance of seatbelt use, particularly in high-speed crashes.

A passenger in the Mercedes, 27-year-old Alexandria Telisha Gamble, also of Richmond, was seriously injured in the crash. While her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, she was transported from the scene for urgent medical care. Authorities have not yet released details regarding her current condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Miguel Munive Rangel, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a local medical facility for treatment. Police have not indicated whether charges are pending, and no citations have been announced as of Monday morning.

The crash scene caused a significant disruption to morning traffic, with all westbound lanes of I-64 shut down for several hours while police conducted their investigation and emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage. The closure led to heavy delays and detours throughout the morning commute.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was deployed to assist in determining the exact sequence of events that led to the collision. Investigators are reviewing dashcam footage, physical evidence from the scene, and witness statements to establish fault and assess whether excessive speed or driver impairment were contributing factors.
