TOLEDO, OH — A domestic dispute ended in tragedy over the weekend when 37-year-old Ashley Morris Fonseca—also known as “Smokahontas Fonseca”—was fatally shot in her apartment, police confirm. The incident occurred Friday, June 25, at a residence in Toledo.
A Cry for Help
According to report Ashley publicly posted on Facebook just hours before the shooting, stating she didn’t feel safe. She said her boyfriend, Lawrence Moore, repeatedly threatened her and had pointed a gun at her in recent weeks.
Shooting Leaves One Dead and One Seriously Injured
Police responding to the scene found both Ashley and Moore with gunshot wounds. Moore later died at a Toledo hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot. Fonseca was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, placed on life support, and passed away on June 27, 2025. Her family has since donated her organs in hopes of saving other lives.
History of Domestic Violence
Authorities noted that Moore had a documented history of domestic violence. Fonseca herself had previously suffered personal tragedy as a child—her mother was killed in a violent incident in 1998.
