Thorold, ON – A tragic motorcycle accident in Thorold has claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy from St. Catharines, marking the fourth fatal motorcycle collision in the Niagara region this month.
According to Niagara Regional Police, the collision occurred late Saturday evening in the area of Holland Road and Merrittville Highway. Investigators say a black 2014 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, operated by the teenage rider, collided with a 2017 grey Dodge Caravan driven by a 41-year-old woman from Thorold.
Emergency crews, including Niagara EMS and Thorold Fire Services, responded swiftly to the scene. The teen sustained life-threatening injuries and, despite efforts by paramedics to save him, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not been officially released, but police have confirmed he was a resident of St. Catharines.
This latest tragedy adds to a growing concern in the Niagara region, where four fatal motorcycle crashes have occurred in June alone, prompting renewed calls for road safety awareness among both drivers and motorcyclists.
The Niagara Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward.
