WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Wilmington Police Department has released additional information following a deadly shooting early Saturday morning that left one man dead and his son charged with murder.
According to a WPD news release issued Sunday, officers responded around 12:30 a.m. on July 5 to a residence in the 200 block of Colonial Drive after receiving reports of gunshots inside the home. Upon arrival, officers located and detained a suspect without incident.
Inside the home, police discovered the body of 52-year-old Michael White, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Authorities have confirmed that the victim and the suspect were father and son.
The suspect, 19-year-old Camden White of Wilmington, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with second-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Center.
While details surrounding what led to the shooting have not yet been released, police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
