BURLINGTON, WISCONSIN – The tight-knit community of Wheatland is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Mark and Dory Weis, a beloved couple whose lives were tragically cut short following a motorcycle accident. Mark and Dory, both 73, passed away just one day apart—on July 5 and 6, 2025—leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love, family devotion, and service to others.
For more than five decades, Mark and Dory were partners in every sense of the word—married for nearly 52 years, devoted parents, proud grandparents, and cherished neighbors. Their passing, just hours apart, is a poignant reflection of the inseparable bond they shared in life and now carry into eternity.
Born and raised in Wheatland, Mark Weis was a lifelong resident of the area. He was born on June 3, 1952, to Alvin and Rosemary Weis and spent his early years working on the family’s dairy farm. A graduate of Central High School, Mark carried forward the family farming legacy with pride before later serving as a custodian at his alma mater. He was known for his love of the outdoors, especially deer hunting, taking ranger rides, mowing the lawn, and riding his trike. Mark was also deeply involved in his community, serving as captain of the Wheatland Fire Department and a faithful member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Dory Weis (née Norwood) was born on February 1, 1952, in Dearborn, Michigan, and raised in Kenosha and Illinois before settling in Wheatland. A graduate of Central High School, she was known for her vibrant energy and dedication to her family. Dory balanced life as a homemaker and farm helper before working as an office manager for Interstate Studios. She was also a proud member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. An avid reader and accomplished cook, Dory’s joy was found in her kitchen and at the card table, where she loved to entertain family and friends. She took special pride in her role as a grandmother, never missing a moment to cheer on her grandchildren at games, concerts, and family vacations.
Together, Mark and Dory were the heart of their family and a guiding presence in their community. Known for their warm smiles, generous spirits, and quiet strength, the couple inspired everyone around them with the simple but powerful example of a life well-lived—side by side.
“They were the definition of true love,” said a family friend. “If you were lucky enough to know them, you felt their kindness and saw the joy they took in life, family, and one another.”
The Weises are survived by their four children—Jeana (Jason) Peterson, Marcia (Brett) Abramowski, Trisha (Ryan) Peterson, and Krista (Arthur J) Naber—as well as godson Jason (Ashley) Weis and nine beloved grandchildren. Mark is also survived by his siblings Alan, Carl, Claude, Elmer, Carolyn, Donnie, Kay, and Ray, while Dory is survived by her siblings Fonda June, Cheryl, Joe Jr., and Lee.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Loretta, while Dory was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Red Leisky, and nephew Josh Rehberg.
Tributes continue to pour in from across Kenosha County and beyond as family, friends, and neighbors reflect on the enduring legacy of Mark and Dory Weis. Their deep commitment to family, tireless work ethic, and quiet acts of kindness touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten.
A joint funeral service is being planned, where the community will gather to honor the couple who gave so much and loved so deeply. As loved ones grieve, they find comfort in knowing that Mark and Dory left this world as they lived in it—together, united in love.
They are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
