Justin Reiger Maryland Suicide: Francis Scott Key High School teacher dies by suicide at Bollinger Park on Fringer Road amid child sexual abuse allegation

A Carroll County Public School teacher who was under investigation for child sexual abuse has died by suicide, according to the Taneytown Police Department. Authorities confirmed that 22-year-old Justin Rieger was found deceased at Bollinger Park in Taneytown on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

At approximately 9:16 a.m., Taneytown Police Officers responded to a report at 3775 Fringer Road, Bollinger Park, after trail-goers discovered an apparent suicide victim. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Rieger had died from an apparent gunshot wound.

A firearm was located near his body, and investigators secured his vehicle, which was found in the parking lot, for further processing. Maryland State Police Crime Scene and Forensic investigators were called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.

In a statement, the Taneytown Police Department extended condolences to Rieger’s family and the community, acknowledging the tragedy of the situation. Officials addressed concerns regarding speculation and misinformation circulating within the community, emphasizing their commitment to reporting factual information.

“This is a difficult and heartbreaking situation, and balancing privacy with transparency is always a challenge. We want the community to feel reassured that this was an isolated incident, and our parks remain safe,” the department stated.

Authorities also noted that they had met with Rieger’s family to express their condolences and apologized if any public statements had unintentionally caused additional distress.
