BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend’s 7-year-old son on Saturday night.
According to an arrest affidavit, around 10:30 p.m., 32-year-old Sammie Underwood III met his ex-girlfriend and her two children at WS Crab House.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office said that Underwood became upset with his ex-girlfriend, believing another man had been in the vehicle with her.
Underwood allegedly became more irritated, resulting in the ex-girlfriend getting in her car and leaving the area with her children.
BCSO said that Underwood began following her and attempted to run her off the road. He allegedly fired multiple rounds into the air while chasing them.
As they approached 15th Street and Sherman Ave, Underwood allegedly drove beside her vehicle and shot again, striking the child in the back.
The child was taken to a local hospital for emergency care and is recovering from his injuries.
Underwood was arrested on Monday and was taken into custody without incident. Officers said they also found a variety of narcotics on him.
However, BCSO learned during the investigation that 31-year-old Ricki Brown of Panama City helped Underwood dispose of the firearm and stayed at her residence to avoid being arrested.
Underwood has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, discharge a firearm from a vehicle, discharge a firearm into an occupied conveyance, tampering with evidence, grand theft of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of fentanyl, possession of hydrocodone, possession of OxyContin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than 60 grams and hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident.
Brown was charged with accessory after the fact to a 2nd degree felony, violation of probation, and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.
