CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — Nearly three months into the manhunt for Travis Decker, the father accused of killing his three young daughters, investigators have released harrowing new details about the crime scene and the evidence that further implicates him as the sole suspect.
Paityn Decker, 9, Evelyn Decker, 8, and Olivia Decker, 5, were found dead on June 2 near the Rock Island Campground in Chelan County, just days after leaving home for a planned visit with their father on May 30.
Court documents initially revealed that each of the girls had plastic bags placed over their heads and their wrists bound with zip ties. But in a new statement Monday, officials disclosed that two of the children each had two bags over their heads, while the youngest had three. Several cable ties were also discovered scattered near the bodies.
Forensic testing at the Washington State Crime Lab has since confirmed that Decker’s DNA was found on both the plastic bags and the cable ties, officials announced. DNA belonging to the victims was also identified on the bags. Investigators said the findings further solidify Decker as the sole suspect in what they described as an act of “unimaginable violence.”
An autopsy previously determined that the girls died of suffocation. Investigators also revealed in July that bloody handprints found on the tailgate of Decker’s vehicle—abandoned near the crime scene—matched his DNA.
Despite these developments, Decker remains at large. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged on Monday that his whereabouts are still unknown and that no evidence suggests whether he is alive or deceased. In July, officials scaled back active search operations due to a lack of leads but stressed that they continue to work closely with state, federal, and local partners.
“This could be a long fight,” Sheriff Mike Morrison previously told ABC News. “Five years, 10 years, 20 years—we hope it’s weeks, but whatever it takes, we are committed to seeing it through.”
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to Decker’s arrest. Authorities warn he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 immediately and not approach him.
Decker is wanted on three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of kidnapping in connection with his daughters’ deaths.
