SAGINAW, MI — Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a Saginaw woman late Saturday night, August 23, 2025.
According to the Saginaw Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. to the area of Emerson Street and Howard Street following multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has since been identified as 43-year-old Cortney Michelle King, a Saginaw resident. Officials confirmed King’s identity Sunday morning as the investigation into the fatal shooting continues.
Authorities have not released information regarding potential suspects or a motive in the case. At this time, no arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the events leading up to it to come forward.
The homicide has shaken the Emerson and Howard neighborhood, with residents expressing concern over the violence that unfolded on their streets. Many have called for increased community cooperation with law enforcement to bring answers and justice to King’s family.
