The Peoria County coroner has identified a 66-year-old man who died after being struck by a vehicle on one of the city’s busiest roads.
David Johnson, a resident of North Hightower Street in Peoria, was hit on February 6 in the 3400 block of North University Street. Peoria police arrived at the scene around 5:45 p.m., and Johnson was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He suffered multiple blunt-force injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
When officers arrived, they found a damaged wheelchair near Johnson. The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and told police he did not see the victim in time to avoid the collision.
