Lockdown at Wexford Collegiate After Reports of Gun on Campus

TORONTO, ON — Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts was placed under lockdown late Tuesday morning following reports of a possible firearm near the campus at Pharmacy Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East.

Toronto Police said they received calls around 11:57 a.m. about a person with a gun in or around the school grounds. Officers from 41 Division responded immediately, securing the building and placing it under lockdown as a precaution.

“No injuries have been reported at this time,” police confirmed in an early afternoon update, adding that the investigation remains active. Students and staff were instructed to remain in secured areas while officers conducted a search of the building and surrounding property.

On social media, Toronto Police reiterated the situation, writing:

“PERSON WITH A GUN: Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts… School is currently in lockdown. Police on scene. No injuries reported. Ongoing investigation.”

Parents and guardians were urged not to come to the school until officers provide further direction, as the area remains under a heavy police presence.
