Vigils Planned to Honor Fallen Officers After Deadly York County Shooting

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Communities across York County are preparing to gather in mourning and solidarity following a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of three law enforcement officers on Wednesday.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, five officers were struck by gunfire while serving a warrant in North Codorus Township. Three of the officers were killed, while two others remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition at WellSpan York Hospital. The suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement during the incident.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the officers or the shooter, pending notification of families.

Vigils Announced

Community members will have opportunities to come together in remembrance and prayer on Thursday, Sept. 18:

  • Spring Grove Alliance Church will host a vigil at 7 p.m. at 213 N. Main St. in Spring Grove Borough.
  • St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a prayer service, also at 7 p.m., at 201 S. Main St. in Spring Grove Borough.

Both gatherings are open to the public, with local leaders encouraging residents to show support for the families of the fallen and for all members of law enforcement affected by the tragedy.

Community Response

The shootings have sent shockwaves throughout York County and beyond, drawing an outpouring of condolences from state and federal leaders. Officials said additional information on the investigation and the officers involved will be released in the coming days.
