JACKSON, Miss. — Authorities in Jackson are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Thursday evening in the capital city, leaving one man dead and another facing murder charges.
According to the Jackson Police Department (JPD), officers responded to reports of a disturbance in the 2500 block of Idaho Street on September 18, 2025. When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts to save him, the victim, Duane Kyles, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives quickly launched an investigation and identified 27-year-old Dequency Jordan as the primary suspect. Jordan was taken into custody without incident and has since been charged with murder in connection with the deadly attack. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the motive behind the stabbing or the relationship, if any, between the suspect and the victim.
“This was a tragic and senseless act of violence,” a spokesperson for JPD said Friday morning. “Our detectives acted swiftly to identify and apprehend the suspect, and we hope this arrest provides some measure of justice for the victim’s family.”
The incident has rattled residents of the normally quiet neighborhood, where violent crimes of this nature are rare. Neighbors described a chaotic scene as police and emergency personnel swarmed the area late Thursday. “I just heard shouting and then saw all the lights outside,” one resident told reporters. “It’s scary to know something like this could happen right down the street.”
The Bureau of Investigations within JPD is continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine what led up to the deadly altercation. Detectives are urging anyone who may have additional information about the case to come forward.
