Antonio Wilcox Jr., 25, was allegedly speeding and under the influence when he caused a fatal crash in Miami Gardens on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of a woman and four children.
The collision occurred near Northwest 37th Avenue and 170th Street, where surveillance footage captured a black SUV violently striking a white Nissan Altima, which was then crushed between the SUV and a silver Cadillac Escalade.
Emergency responders transported all five occupants of the Altima to hospitals in Broward County, but tragically, none survived. Miami Gardens Police Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty confirmed the fatalities, stating, “Five fatalities. It’s going to be one adult female and four children.”
At least five other individuals sustained injuries and were also hospitalized.
Investigators determined that Wilcox was both speeding and impaired at the time of the crash. “Speed was a factor, and alcohol was also a factor,” Jeanty said.
Wilcox now faces five counts of vehicular homicide, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues.
Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims.
