Brownsville, TX – The Brownsville community is mourning the sudden loss of 27-year-old Ramiro Torres, a security officer with Brownsville Independent School District (BISD), who tragically died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. on FM 3248 near Dr. Hugh Emerson Road. Preliminary reports indicate that Torres was driving a 2004 black Chevrolet Silverado westbound and was reportedly racing a Chevrolet Camaro at the time of the accident. Authorities say he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer to the right, roll onto its side, and collide with a utility pole. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, Torres succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A female passenger in the vehicle was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Her current condition has not been released.
Later that day, BISD confirmed Torres’ role as a security officer at Manzano Middle School, sharing a heartfelt statement in honor of his life and service:
