The Michigan City Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 31-year-old Gregory Wyse, a beloved resident of Michigan City. The tragic discovery has left the community heartbroken and searching for answers as authorities work to locate the driver responsible.
According to officials, the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a call around 3:14 p.m. on October 27 from a pedestrian who discovered a body lying in a ditch along the 700 block of Indiana State Road 212. Responding officers from the Uniform Patrol Shift 2 and the Traffic Division arrived quickly and found Wyse deceased from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Preliminary findings suggest that Wyse was walking southbound along State Road 212 when he was hit by a vehicle also traveling south. The driver fled the scene immediately, leaving Wyse behind. Investigators closed the roadway for several hours to conduct an extensive on-site investigation, collect physical evidence, and begin efforts to identify the vehicle involved.
The Investigative Division is leading the ongoing case, with support from multiple agencies, including the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, Trail Creek Police Department, Long Beach Police Department, Michigan City Fire Department, and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office.
