A heavy police presence was seen near a Richmond home on Sunday following the fatal shooting of a woman.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded to a residence on the 8900 block of Rocky Knoll Lane to investigate the tragic incident.
According to neighbors, multiple sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home shortly after noon and approached the front door. A short time later, a man inside was taken into custody.
Hours after authorities arrived, a press release from Lamar CISD identified the victim as Iona Pollard and the alleged shooter as her husband, David Pollard.
The couple reportedly had two children, both of whom were unharmed. While it remains unclear whether they were home at the time of the shooting, neighbors indicated they did not believe the children were present.
Iona Pollard was an instructional coach at George Junior High School. In a statement, Lamar CISD expressed deep sorrow over her passing:
“Our thoughts are with Iona’s two children, who are also part of our Lamar CISD family. The loss of their mother and the circumstances of this tragedy are incredibly heartbreaking. We extend our deepest condolences to the Pollard children, their families, friends, and all who knew Iona, particularly her colleagues and students at George Junior High.”
David Pollard also worked for Lamar CISD, serving as the district’s school safety coordinator since 2020. Before that, he was the director of police and security operations at the Texas Medical Center.
Authorities stated that further details would be released as the investigation progresses.
Lamar CISD has announced that support services will be available to students and staff across the district starting Monday morning.
