The Jayess, Mississippi community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Clay Coon, a devoted son, brother, and friend who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was 50 years old.

Clay Coon Jayess, Mississippi
Born on September 3, 1975, in McComb, Mississippi, Clay was the beloved son of Jerry and Sylvia Coon. His passing has left a profound emptiness in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing his gentle and caring spirit.
Clay lived a life guided by kindness, humility, and deep faith. A dedicated member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church, he embodied Christian values through his compassion, generosity, and the way he treated others with respect and grace.
A proud 1994 graduate of Parklane Academy, Clay was remembered for his outgoing personality and determination both in the classroom and on the baseball field. His love for sports carried him through his college years at Southwest Mississippi Community College and later Delta State University, where he continued to excel as an athlete and scholar.
Clay’s talent for baseball and his unwavering sportsmanship earned him admiration from teammates and coaches alike. But beyond his athletic achievements, it was his character — humble, loyal, and full of heart — that truly defined him.
Those closest to him remember Clay for his deep love of animals and his quiet compassion for all living creatures. His gentle soul was a reflection of the kindness he showed every day, whether helping a friend in need or caring for a stray animal.
A devoted New Orleans Saints fan, Clay was loyal to his team through every season. Sundays were special to him — a time to celebrate football, family, and fellowship. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and sharing it with loved ones brought him immense joy.
Clay’s life was rich with simple yet meaningful pleasures — laughter with friends, heartfelt conversations, and peaceful moments spent outdoors. He appreciated life deeply, finding gratitude in the everyday blessings that surrounded him.
One of the most extraordinary acts of Clay’s life came in his final moments. Staying true to his compassionate heart, he chose to become an organ donor, a decision that has already changed lives. His family shared that Clay’s gift will help at least ten people receive the organs they so desperately needed — a testament to his selflessness and enduring spirit.
Through this final act of generosity, Clay continues to make a difference even after his passing, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, faith, and kindness.
Clay was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvie Coon, Zula Mae Coon, Hewitt Cothern, and Elon Sylvia Boyd Cothern.
He is survived by his loving parents, Jerry and Sylvia Coon of Jayess, MS; his brother Scott Coon and sister-in-law Maria Coon of Fort Worth, TX; nephews Matthew Clay Coon (Olivia) and Nolan Coon (Kelsie); niece Madelyn Coon (fiancé Matt Hartzell); and great-nephew Cooper Coon, all of whom will cherish his memory forever.
Clay’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched — through his love for family, his faith in God, and his lasting gift of life to others.
