Dallas County, IA — The Dallas County community is mourning the tragic loss of 63-year-old Laura Keasey of Dallas Center, who was killed in a devastating crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of Highway 44 and J Avenue.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred around 8:35 a.m. when a 2009 semi-truck driven by 69-year-old Edward Swinger of Redfield failed to stop at the intersection, colliding with Keasey’s 2009 Toyota Scion as she traveled westbound on Highway 44. Despite being restrained and receiving immediate emergency care, Keasey sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Emergency crews from the Adel Fire Department, Dallas County EMS, and the Iowa State Patrol responded swiftly to the scene, working tirelessly to assist and investigate the cause of the crash. The roadway remained closed for several hours as officials examined the scene and cleared debris.
News of Laura’s passing has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken. Those who knew her describe her as a kind, gentle, and compassionate soul — someone who radiated warmth and made life brighter for everyone around her.
“She was one of those people who made life a little better just by being in it,” said one Dallas Center resident. “Her smile could turn an ordinary day into something special.”
A lifelong member of the Dallas Center community, Laura was known for her deep love of family, her selflessness, and her quiet strength. Whether through small acts of kindness or her willingness to lend a listening ear, she left a lasting mark on those fortunate enough to know her.
As investigators continue to review the circumstances of the crash, officials have urged all motorists to exercise caution at intersections and remain attentive while driving — a reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office extended gratitude to all first responders and community members who assisted at the scene.
As the community grieves, loved ones are finding comfort in the outpouring of support and shared memories of Laura’s compassion and kindness. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family of Laura Keasey during this difficult time. May her memory be a source of comfort, and may her legacy of love and warmth never be forgotten.
