Waco police have publicly identified the victim of a deadly shooting that unfolded early Monday on Colcord Avenue, marking the city’s tenth homicide of 2025. The victim, 40-year-old Thomas Earl Talton, was pronounced dead at the scene despite rapid response efforts from officers and emergency crews.

The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on November 17, when officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Colcord Avenue after receiving a report of an unresponsive person. Responding units discovered Mr. Talton suffering from a gunshot wound. Police and EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, but he could not be revived.
No arrests have been made, and investigators are now working to determine what led to the fatal shooting. Detectives with the Waco Police Department’s homicide unit spent much of Monday gathering evidence, interviewing potential witnesses, and canvassing the surrounding neighborhood for leads. Authorities have not yet released information about a possible suspect or motive.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Waco Crime Stoppers at 254-753-4357, and information leading to an arrest could earn a reward of up to $2,000.
Mr. Talton’s death has left family members, friends, and the broader Waco community grieving a life cut tragically short. As the investigation continues, police say they remain committed to pursuing justice on behalf of the victim and his loved ones.
The case remains under active investigation.
