FAIRFIELD WEST, NSW — A major police operation is underway in Fairfield West after at least two suspects reportedly opened fire on a home Thursday afternoon, prompting urgent warnings for residents to remain indoors as officers secure the area.

The shooting occurred on Margaret Street, near Fairvale School, where police say multiple rounds were fired at a residence shortly after midday. Numerous police units rushed to the scene following reports of gunshots, launching an immediate and large-scale response.
Heavy Police Presence in the Area
More than two dozen officers are currently on-site as the situation continues to unfold. Police helicopters are circling overhead, and several streets have been blocked off as officers work to identify and locate the suspects involved.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone inside the targeted property was injured.
Shelter-in-Place Warning Issued
Due to the active nature of the investigation, police are urging residents in Fairfield West, Canley Vale, and Canley Heights to shelter in place until further notice.
“Please remain indoors and avoid the area while officers secure the scene,” authorities said in an advisory issued to the public.
Fairvale School and other nearby facilities have also been notified as a precaution as police assess any continuing threats to the community.

Officers are currently searching surrounding neighbourhoods for the individuals believed to be responsible. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains active.
