The Omaha community is mourning the tragic loss of Zachary “Zach” Klein, a cherished student, athlete, son, and friend who died after a serious two-car collision late Thursday night, November 20.

The crash occurred just before midnight near 108th and Old Maple Road. Omaha police say two vehicles collided with heavy front-end impact, leaving both drivers injured. Zach, who was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but sadly did not survive. Investigators are continuing to examine what led to the deadly crash.
Zach, a proud Omaha resident, was a member of the Class of 2029 at Concordia High School. Deeply involved in athletics, he was known for his dedication and enthusiasm on the field. He played for both the Millard North High School Football program and the Concordia Varsity Boys Football team, where coaches and teammates remember him as a spirited, hard-working young man whose presence lifted everyone around him.
His mother, Julie Tokosh-Klein, shared an emotional tribute to her son, describing him as a “bright light” with remarkable promise and a heart that embraced everyone he met.
“Zach was a bright light and had a big future ahead of him. He had the biggest heart, eager to be friends with everyone. Zach was so smart—he excelled in school, he was always curious and loved learning, and he embraced every challenge with determination.”
She reflected on Zach’s adventurous and energetic personality, shaped by his love of Tae Kwon Do, basketball, trap shooting, and even spur-of-the-moment leaps off bridges with his cousins. Football, a sport he discovered more recently, had become a central part of his growth and joy.
“Zach was very loud and loved to be the heart of the party. He did crazy things trying to make everyone laugh. He was bold and brave and would give the shirt off his back if you needed it.”
His character, Julie said, was grounded in compassion and faith—reflected in his confirmation verse from Leviticus 19:18: “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.”
Zach’s kindness, humor, and infectious energy touched countless classmates, teachers, teammates, and neighbors. His absence leaves a profound void, but his impact on those who loved him will endure.
The community continues to offer heartfelt condolences to the Klein family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
Rest in peace, Zach. Your light lives on in the hearts of all who knew you.
