The Longview and LeTourneau University communities are mourning the tragic loss of first-year student and men’s soccer standout Henry Shore, who passed away over the weekend. Shore, a Construction Management major and rising collegiate athlete, leaves behind grieving family members, teammates, classmates, and friends who are struggling to comprehend the sudden loss of a young man described as dedicated, humble, and immensely talented.
Shore, who was born and raised in Longview, Texas, quickly made his mark on the LeTourneau YellowJackets in his first collegiate season. His athletic achievements were exceptional: he earned All-SCAC First Team honors and an All-Freshman selection while ranking among the conference’s top offensive performers. Shore finished third in the SCAC with eight goals and fourth with 18 points, delivering standout performances that included seven goals in conference play alone. On October 13, he was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals in a single week. His streak of recording at least one point in five straight conference matches and his remarkable hat trick against St. Thomas—the program’s first since 2019—cemented his reputation as a rising star. His eight goals marked the highest total by a first-year YellowJacket since 2005.
Off the field, Shore was admired just as deeply. Teammates and classmates describe him as kind, hardworking, and grounded, someone who carried his passion for soccer with humility and gratitude. He excelled academically, balanced his commitments with integrity, and was known for being a supportive friend and uplifting presence. Coaches say his dedication inspired those around him, setting an example for both his peers and the future of the program.
LeTourneau University announced that it will hold a campus memorial service led by the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Spiritual Life, offering students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to gather, pray, and honor Shore’s life. The university is also encouraging members of the community to seek support through its Center for Counseling and other available mental health resources as they cope with the loss.
Though his life was tragically cut short, Henry Shore leaves behind a legacy defined by excellence, character, and promise. He will be remembered as a gifted athlete, a devoted student, and a bright presence whose impact will continue to resonate across the LeTourneau community and beyond.
