First Markham Place Shooting: York Regional Police Investigate Late-Night Gunfire Outside Busy Mall

York Regional Police have launched an investigation after multiple shots were fired outside First Markham Place late Sunday night, prompting a large police response at the popular shopping centre located on Highway 7, east of Woodbine Avenue.

Officers were called to the plaza at approximately 11:30 p.m. following reports that a suspect discharged several rounds toward a business in the area. By the time police arrived, the gunman had fled, and no arrests have yet been made.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident. While investigators say there is no immediate threat to public safety, the circumstances surrounding the shooting—including the suspect’s identity and possible motive—remain unclear.

An elevated police presence is expected around the mall in the coming days as officers continue to process the scene. Investigators are conducting canvasses, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, and interviewing witnesses who may have seen the suspect or the events leading up to the gunfire.

York Regional Police are urging members of the public to stay clear of the area while the investigation continues.
