Newfoundland and Labrador Mourns the Loss of Beloved Resident John Handrigan

December 10, 2025 – The Newfoundland and Labrador community is grieving the unexpected passing of John Handrigan, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. John’s sudden death, following a brief and courageous battle with a rare form of brain cancer, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), has left family, friends, and neighbors deeply saddened.

John shared 35 years of marriage with his wife, Jackie, and was a proud father to his daughters, Nicole (Jeremy) and Kathleen (Michael). His love extended beyond his immediate family to his siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives, all of whom remember him as a guiding presence full of warmth, humor, and devotion.

Outside of his family life, John was known as a loyal friend and spirited companion. Longtime friend Steve Thompson recalled their many golf outings across Newfoundland and a memorable trip to Ireland, noting John’s infectious enthusiasm, generosity, and ability to lift the spirits of everyone around him. Those who knew him spoke of his mentorship, kindness, and the joy he brought to everyday moments.

John’s sudden passing leaves a void in the community, but his legacy of love, guidance, and laughter will endure. Friends, family, and neighbors continue to share stories of his humor, integrity, and unwavering spirit, ensuring his memory remains alive in the hearts of all who knew him.
