DE SOTO, Kan. — A heavy law enforcement presence surrounded the Panasonic plant in De Soto on Friday morning after reports of a shooting prompted swift action from local authorities and emergency responders.
Johnson County MED-ACT confirmed that an initial report of a shooting came in early Friday, though officials have not yet released details regarding injuries or what may have led to the incident.
By approximately 12:20 p.m., the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office issued a public update, noting that multiple deputies had been deployed to the facility near 103rd Street and Astra Parkway. The priority, officials said, was securing the area and ensuring the safety of workers and the surrounding community.
A short time later, the sheriff’s office announced that the situation had been “contained,” emphasizing that there was no active threat to the public. FOX4 News crews arrived on scene to gather additional information and provide live updates as events unfolded.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the report. Officials have not confirmed whether anyone was injured or whether any individuals were involved. The De Soto plant, which opened in July 2025, is one of Panasonic’s newest facilities. In a statement to FOX4 News, a company spokesperson addressed the incident and reassured the public:
“We are aware of the law-enforcement involved incident at the De Soto, KS, facility. There was not an active shooter, and we are working closely with the appropriate authorities. We have no additional details to share at this time.”
