San Mateo Atenco, Mexico — Ten people, including three children, were killed Monday, December 15, when a small private jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing in central Mexico, according to local authorities.

Officials said the aircraft was traveling from Acapulco to Toluca when it encountered trouble and attempted to land on a soccer field in San Mateo Atenco, located about 32 miles west of Mexico City. Instead, the jet struck an industrial warehouse and erupted into flames.
Authorities reported that the warehouse stored fuel and gas tanks, prompting emergency officials to evacuate nearby buildings as a safety precaution. Approximately 130 people were evacuated from the surrounding area, officials confirmed.
Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrián Hernández said all ten victims were occupants of the aircraft. Firefighters from Toluca and neighboring municipalities responded quickly to the scene, working to contain the fire and secure the area from further danger.
Witnesses told authorities they saw the aircraft spinning uncontrollably moments before the crash, followed by a powerful explosion and thick plumes of smoke rising into the air. Images from the scene showed a scorched soccer field and significant damage to the industrial building.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash, while rescue and safety crews continue operations at the site. The deadly incident has left the local community shaken as officials work to identify the victims and notify their families.
