The Athens Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Saturday night. At approximately 10:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 72 East and Old Decatur Road, just outside the Walmart.
Upon arrival, first responders—including police, firefighters, and EMS personnel—discovered a man lying dead on the roadway. It was determined that the vehicle had fled the scene moments before emergency services arrived.
Limestone County Coroner Mike West later identified the victim as 37-year-old Jessie Lee Turner of Athens.
Authorities are now requesting any information that could help in identifying the vehicle and driver responsible. They have noted that the suspect’s vehicle sustained moderate to heavy damage to its front end, particularly affecting the windshield.
This tragic incident, which resulted in the loss of an Athens resident, remains under active investigation.
