BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton University community is mourning the loss of Juan Cruz Marini, a student who tragically passed away on Saturday night, according to an announcement from University President Harvey Stenger.
“I am heartbroken to report that we sadly lost a student last night,” Stenger wrote in a Sunday afternoon statement to the campus community. “They will be mourned by their friends, family members, teachers, and classmates. I know that many of our students, faculty, and staff may be affected by this loss, and I encourage you to seek help if needed through the support services listed below.”
Candlelight Vigil to Honor Marini’s Memory
To commemorate Marini’s life, the Thurgood Marshall Pre-Law Society will hold a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. on Monday at the Peace Quad.
In a statement posted Sunday night, the organization expressed its condolences and invited the community to come together in remembrance.
“Marini, a student, a son, and a friend, will forever remain in the hearts of the Binghamton community,” the post read. “May Marini rest in peace, and may we continue to remember all that he contributed to the world and our community.”

In response to the tragedy, the University Counseling Center hosted a support session on Sunday afternoon in the Multipurpose Room at the Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center.

At this time, university officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances of Marini’s passing.
