Early Life and Education
Born on December 26, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Richard and Karen Broadhead, Ryan’s formative years were characterized by a blend of humor, creativity, and athleticism. The family resided in various locations before settling in Payson, Utah, which Ryan proudly considered his hometown. He later established his own home in Santaquin, Utah, with his beloved wife, McKenzie, and their children.
Ryan’s vivacious personality was evident from a young age. Known for his sharp wit and playful demeanor, he had a unique ability to bring laughter to any situation. His creative talents were showcased through numerous sketchbooks filled with his artwork, including self-designed tattoos, and a penchant for embarking on diverse building projects. Athletically inclined, Ryan participated in sports such as soccer and wrestling and notably earned the title of pogo stick champion in the fifth grade. His love for the outdoors was profound, encompassing activities like camping, rock climbing, hiking, and hunting. His dedication to scouting culminated in achieving the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout.
Professional Career
After graduating from Payson High School in 2014, Ryan briefly ventured into the workforce before discovering his true calling in law enforcement. He graduated from the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) program in July 2018 and commenced his career as a corrections officer with the Utah Department of Corrections. In 2020, Ryan transitioned to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, where he continued his role as a corrections officer at the county jail.
Ryan’s dedication to his profession was unwavering. He served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), was an active member of the Direct Response Team (DRT), and earned certification as an instructor. His natural aptitude for teaching and mentoring was evident, with many colleagues lauding his ability to impart knowledge and guidance effectively. Ryan’s influence extended beyond his immediate duties, positively impacting the lives of both his peers and the individuals under his supervision. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office expressed their grief, stating, “The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of our own this week, Deputy Ryan Broadhead.”
Personal Life
In August 2017, Ryan married McKenzie Menlove, the love of his life. Their relationship was built on a foundation of shared humor and deep affection. Together, they welcomed two children: their son, Liam Ryan Broadhead, in August 2018, and their daughter, Sophia Lois Broadhead, in April 2021. Ryan was a devoted father, often involving his children in his various projects or crafting items specifically for them. His family was the cornerstone of his existence, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Ryan is survived by his wife, McKenzie Broadhead, and their children, Liam and Sophia; his parents, Richard and Karen Broadhead; his brothers, Jacob (Emilie) Broadhead and Karsen Broadhead; his parents-in-law, Carrie and Jared Menlove; his siblings-in-law, Morgan (Zackry) Dickerson and Wesley Menlove; and his nieces and nephews: Austin, Zoey, and Maia Broadhead, and Jaxon and Alexander Dickerson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Austin Broadhead; his grandparents, Dee and Jenell Broadhead, and Roger and Lois Johnston; his uncle, Mark Johnston; and his cousin, AJ Johnston.
Funeral Services
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Ryan’s life will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the service, a viewing is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Both events will take place at The Barn at Wall Brothers Orchards, located at 918 UT-198, Santaquin, Utah. Following the service, interment will occur at the Santaquin City Cemetery, 100 East 300 South, Santaquin, UT 84655.
