CHICAGO, IL – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday night on the CTA Red Line platform at 69th Street Station, where a woman was shot in the neck and later died from her injuries.
The victim has been identified as Kamira McMillen, believed to be between 25 and 35 years old.
According to Chicago police, the shooting occurred around 9:46 p.m. when McMillen became involved in an argument with another woman on the platform. The dispute escalated when the suspect pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot, striking McMillen in the neck before fleeing the scene.
Video footage taken in the aftermath of the shooting shows a single bullet shell casing on the platform as emergency responders worked to save McMillen. She was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, but despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
Ongoing Investigation
The Chicago Police Department’s Area One detectives have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the suspect involved. At this time, no arrests have been made, and authorities have yet to release a description of the shooter.
It remains unclear what led to the argument or whether McMillen and the suspect knew each other prior to the incident. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking witnesses who may have been present during the altercation.
