CHARLOTTE, NC – A 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed early Monday morning in what authorities describe as a domestic dispute at a home on Burkland Drive.
Shamaree Brown, 20, succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed during an altercation with his pregnant girlfriend, Maya Jones, also 20. According to investigators, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when a heated argument between the couple turned violent.
Police reports indicate that during the dispute, Jones allegedly brandished a knife, leading Brown to attempt to disarm her. His mother, who was present at the scene, intervened in an effort to separate them. However, Jones is accused of reaching around Brown’s mother and delivering the fatal stab wound.
Emergency responders arrived to find Brown suffering from a severe stab wound and bleeding heavily. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Jones was taken into custody following the incident. Authorities have not yet disclosed what charges she may face as the investigation remains ongoing.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
