Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of Tyrome Gatewood Jr., a teenager who was killed on Thursday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Knoxville neighborhood.

Suspect Identified as Kyhree Harper

Police have identified the suspect as Kyhree Harper, 17, who now faces charges in connection with Gatewood’s tragic death.

According to court documents, a witness reported that both Harper and Gatewood had been handling firearms and reloading magazines at the time of the shooting.

Gunfire Reported in Knoxville Neighborhood

The incident unfolded on Thursday, March 27, 2025, when Pittsburgh police were alerted to gunfire through a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 1:09 p.m. in the 100 block of Rochelle Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 17-year-old male inside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately administered life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Tyrome Gatewood Jr., a resident of Carrick.

Suspect Taken Into Custody

Following the shooting, police quickly detained a person of interest for questioning, and after further investigation, authorities took Harper into custody in connection with Gatewood’s death.

Officials have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat as the investigation remains active.
