Pleasant Grove Police Release Further Details In Shooting Death of 21-Year-Old Montease Booker; Devin Jamar Johnson Arrest & Charges

PLEASANT GROVE, AL – Authorities in Pleasant Grove have launched a homicide investigation following the tragic fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman in the early hours of March 31, 2025.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Montease Yvonne Booker, a Birmingham resident. Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 5:21 a.m. in the 1300 block of 7th Place and arrived to find a scene that quickly led to an arrest.

Suspect Found at the Scene

Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Devin Jamar Johnson of Pleasant Grove standing in the front yard of the residence. A pistol was also recovered nearby—found resting on the roof of a vehicle parked at the scene.

Inside the home, police located Booker, who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, marking another tragic instance of gun violence in the area.

Investigation and Arrest

Based on statements from Johnson and multiple witnesses, officers took Johnson into custody on-site. He is currently being held at the Pleasant Grove City Jail as authorities work with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Bessemer to formally charge him with Booker’s murder.
