Kea‘au, Hawai‘i – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash in Hawaiian Paradise Park as 45-year-old Renoo Gilbert, a resident of Kea‘au. The accident occurred late Monday night, March 31, 2025, and is currently under investigation by the Hawai‘i Police Department’s East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit.
Details of the Crash
According to law enforcement officials, officers responded to reports of a serious traffic collision at approximately 9:34 p.m. Their preliminary findings indicate that a 2018 Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound on Maku‘u Drive when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Maku‘u Drive and Ala Heiau Road. The vehicle then continued forward, eventually crashing into a rock wall.
Gilbert, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found unresponsive at the scene. Emergency responders transported her to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased at 11:34 p.m.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death, though preliminary reports suggest that alcohol consumption, driver inattention, and failure to wear a seatbelt were contributing factors in the crash.
A coroner’s inquest has been launched, and the East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
