In loving memory of Xavier Egger, Stony Point teen killed in Wednesday crash on Route 6 in Woodbury

WOODBURY, N.Y. — A late-night crash in Orange County has left a Stony Point teenager dead and two others injured after a vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree, New York State Police confirmed.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Xavier Egger, was riding in the back seat of a 2017 Nissan traveling eastbound on Route 6 in Woodbury around 10:53 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2.

According to investigators, the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when it approached the Long Mountain traffic circle. The driver failed to safely navigate the curve, sending the vehicle through the center of the roundabout before it struck a tree head-on.

Emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene and extricated all three occupants from the severely damaged vehicle. Xavier Egger was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries.

The driver, 43-year-old Steffany Egger — who public records show is Xavier’s mother — and a 21-year-old male passenger, whose identity has not yet been released, were both treated at the scene and transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the New York State Police Monroe Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Stony Point community, where friends and neighbors are mourning the sudden loss of a young life. Tributes to Xavier Egger, remembered by those who knew him as kind and full of potential, have begun to appear on social media.

Officials have not yet commented on whether impairment or distraction may have played a role in the crash, and further details are expected as the investigation continues.
