Roger Evans Car Accident: In loving memory of 76-year-old Victor man killed in Thursday crash on I-80 near Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, Iowa — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Thursday evening along Interstate 80 near Williamsburg.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 76-year-old Roger Evans, a resident of Victor, was struck and killed while attempting to retrieve items that had blown out of his vehicle.

The incident took place around 6:00 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80. A preliminary crash report indicates that Evans had exited his vehicle and was trying to cross the highway when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but Evans was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.

Officials have not released further details regarding the driver involved, and no charges have been announced at this time. The incident remains under active investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when stopped along highways and remind the public of the dangers of entering live traffic lanes.
