TOWN OF BLUE MOUNDS, Wis. — A domestic disturbance turned deadly Sunday in the Town of Blue Mounds, prompting a major response from local law enforcement and sparking an active investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say they received a 911 call reporting a domestic incident involving a mother and daughter in the area near Smokey Mountain Trail. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after the stabbing, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash nearby, where a car had collided with a grain bin. Investigators believe the crash may be directly connected to the earlier stabbing, and that the driver of the vehicle is likely the suspect in the fatal incident.
The individual was taken into custody without further incident, though authorities have not yet released any names or confirmed the exact relationship between those involved. Initial reports suggest the altercation stemmed from a domestic dispute between family members.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the community and that the situation was contained shortly after deputies arrived. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews as part of the investigation.
“While this is a tragic and isolated event, we want to assure the public that there is no danger to the wider community,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement released late Sunday.
Authorities are withholding the identities of those involved pending notification of next of kin. Charges are expected to be filed as the investigation progresses.
Anyone with information that may assist in the case is urged to contact the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. Additional updates are expected in the coming days.
