LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Lafayette Fire Department is mourning the unexpected passing of Sergeant John Robinson, a devoted firefighter and nearly 30-year veteran of the department, who died while on duty Monday at Fire Station 9.
According to an official release from LFD, Sgt. Robinson, 53, was found unresponsive at the station and could not be revived. His sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of colleagues, friends, and family members.

Sgt. Robinson, known for his dedication and unwavering service, spent nearly three decades protecting and serving the Lafayette community. He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and their two daughters, Ava and Reece.
“Our entire department is grieving the loss of one of our own,” said Fire Chief Brian Alkire. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Sergeant Robinson and ask the community to join us in honoring the memory of this brave firefighter, who gave everything in service to others.”
In the wake of his passing, the Lafayette Fire Department is coordinating with the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Supporting Heroes, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to arrange a proper tribute and funeral services for Sgt. Robinson.
The department is requesting the public’s continued support, understanding, and respect for Sgt. Robinson’s family and his fellow firefighters during this difficult time.
