MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – A fatal two-vehicle crash in St. Mary’s County Thursday evening has prompted an investigation by the Maryland State Police.
At approximately 5:58 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack responded to a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Maryland Route 235 (Three Notch Road) and Mt. Zion Church Road. The preliminary investigation indicates that a GMC Canyon, driven by 92-year-old Casper Bradbury Sr. of Mechanicsville, was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Route 235 onto Mt. Zion Church Road when it failed to yield to an oncoming GMC Envoy, driven by 59-year-old Jean Gagnon of Mechanicsville. As a result, the GMC Envoy collided with the passenger side of the GMC Canyon.
Jean Gagnon was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Casper Bradbury Sr. and his passenger, 90-year-old Norma Bradbury, both of Mechanicsville, were transported by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment of their injuries.
Personnel from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures at the scene, which lasted approximately three hours to allow for investigation and cleanup.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is currently leading the investigation into the fatal crash. Upon completion of their investigation, the findings will be submitted to the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, which will determine if charges will be filed in the case.
