A two-vehicle collision on Friday, January 24, at approximately 7:36 p.m., tragically claimed the life of a Wetumpka woman.
24-year-old Dawnielle Rhodes sustained fatal injuries when her 2010 Nissan Altima was struck by a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup driven by 20-year-old Elijah B. Arant, also of Wetumpka. Rhodes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arant was injured and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Skylar P. Bearden, 24, a passenger in the Nissan Altima, also sustained injuries and was taken to the same hospital. Additionally, a 17-year-old passenger in the Dodge Ram was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Fern Road and Ceasarville Road, about one mile south of Holtville in Elmore County. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division is continuing to investigate the incident, with no further details available at this time.
